UNDAREYTED CELEBRITY-COS HE’S HOT AND YOU’RE NOT!!!
Today’s AREA! was fun, congratulations to all the celebrities in the house. We had Darey or Dare or Undareyted, whatever you want to call him, in the house today! And we could feel the heat level literally rise, some ladies called in and honestly, I’m not making this up, we could “hear” the blush over the phone.LWKM. I mean one or two people called and then just became speechless at the sound of dare’s voice.lol. I mean it was sooo funny, but we can’t deny it, Dare is HOOOOOOT like fire, I mean his voice alone, oh lordy! he’s now a hunk again! Father!
Dare finally deciphered 9ice’s proverb in his song “style na style”, the one where he said, “shàkátá pàrámò ń sí ńtó”, before telling you the meaning, let me say that I am a very Yoruba girl, I’ve been speaking Yoruba, in fact even before I was born :), and not Lagos Yoruba o, conc one, and sincerely I have absolutely no idea what this proverb means, I mean no idea at all, if somebody had asked me, I’d have said it wasn’t Yoruba, really. Anyway, Dare said it means, you cannot spit with a tush face, you know, your face will go through some contortions. It was really nice having Dare in the studio today. Thanks Darey

MR NOBODY: OLOHUN MAJE!!!
AREAAAAAA! today was gbaski as usual, lotsa peoples calling us from lotsa areaz. On PUBLIC FORUM today, we were discussing what gets us through the day, naturally, we had different opinions, someone said you just have to “endure” the day, that made me think, why should I endure, when I can enjoy, I hope that person learns to start enjoying more rather than enduring, someone else said the fact that he knows that he will be the worlds greatest keeps him going, hmmh, I like that. Another caller said faith in God and a lady said what gets her going through the day is the opportunity to prove to all evil-wishers and detractors that she can do better and she can be greater than they all think. Me! Hmmh, okay, when I was in school, it was the thought of the money my mother was paying that kept me going so many times that I should have just given up.lol, cos I went to a private school and mehn it ain’t easy and upon all, I now went & read a very boring, very demanding course, anyways “Weee Thank the Looord”. A caller also said that the Word of God gets him through the day, I really like that. There was a lot of alternative music today as it has been recently, and I am totally enjoying it, I mean I am absolutely relishing the songs.lol
THE HOW-TO SHOW
My favourite part of Tuesdays, the how to show today enlightened us on how to be a nobody in your profession, isn’t that just great?
• Don’t mix with your colleagues o, don’t talk to them, don’t tell them anything
• Stay rigid, stick to the same way you used to run things when you went to school
• Cast away any material that is supposed to improve you like an abomination. Fílè! don’t touch it
• Don’t believe in mentorship
• Rain abuses on anyone that tries to correct you
• Engage in a full off-your-cloth showdown with anyone that dares to criticize you
• Make enemies in the industry, sabotage all their efforts at progress and let the whole world know that you did it
• The moment you get a little hint of your success, take a long holiday without telling anyone in the office
• Make sure you go to work late, go for lunch at 10am and come back at 3pm

USHERING IN AUGUST WITH VIM!!!
Our first AREAAAA! show in August was naturally very energetic, with all our callers and texters with their very creative ways of shouting AREA! sometimes I just start laughing all by myself at some of these thunderous bellows, who says Nigerians are not innovative. We are jare.
On MEMORY LANE we were talking about Cars, you know, listeners were expected to call in and text in and tell us some experiences they have had with cars, maybe there’s a particular car in the family that has even been named (lol). Edoyak came up with a pretty remarkable experience; he said there was a car that he and his brothers used to learn to drive, they named it Baba Legba, and when in his dad’s will, he said they should take care of the car because it had been a faithful servant, I mean, it was in the will?! lol, a 19 year old texter, Tokunbo says his dad has a car that he bought in 1985, and he gets ticked off because his dad always reminds him that the car is older than him, lol, I can relate to that jare, my dad used to have this old Toyota Corolla that he had even before he met my mum, anytime we entered that car ehn, you just have to package yourself well, because if you even mistakenly fart in the car (lol) you are in deep muck. (LWKM) we also had a lot of other experiences, mostly humorous. I remember some time ago I took a random sample of the people around me and discovered that most people, at least 80% (ok I don’t really remember the exact figure, I just plucked it out of the air.lol, but I’m sure its close) had used Volkswagen Beetle aka Ijapa, yerinbeto etc at one point or the other in their families.

HASTA LA VISTA JULY!-I FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL GOOD!!!!!!!!
Friday, 31st July, 2009 felt really good with SHOUT-OUTS (literally), which came on after AREAAAAA! some people almost shouted down the studio, some x-men siren kinda voices, lol. There were a lot of shout-outs to a lot of people, you know, family especially mothers and spouses , boyfriends and girlfriends and so on and so forth. Then we had the WEEKEND REVIEW, most of our callers had one event or the other to go to, birthdays, weddings etcetera. Edoyak was one of those with a really full weekend with a meeting, his aunties birthday bash, games and airport runs, Cynthia from shagamu said this weekend is her friends birthday, so they’re headed to a karaoke bar... I wonder if theres a karaoke bar in shagamu... just wondering sha, then Area Mama herself told us of her Girlfriends night out today at a karaoke bar, seems everybody is having fun this weekend, shan’t I find somewhere to go now, ehn?
TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE
• The Boko Haram leader, has been captured in Maiduguri. Let somebody shout Halleluyah, finally, the bloodshed will stop.
• Contrary to a rumour going round, it has been reported that LASU will not commence exams on Monday, 2nd August, the ASUU chairman, LASU, says the strike continues until there is a different directive from the National Executive council, ASUU in Abuja.
• A flaw has been discovered in the Apple iPhone that makes it vulnerable to attacks by hackers. (or hockers, like my Russia-trained lecturer calls it, maybe there’s no “a” in Russian.lol)
• MJ’s mum, Katherine, gets custody of his three kids and Debbie Rowe wants joint custody of her children, though the children reportedly didn’t know she was their mother (aren’t you tired of hearing about this people yet, I mean MJ is dead! Can we just sort things out and get it all over with already!)
• Aramyde’s quote today was quite funny, I guess to balance the serious ones we normally have; “Where there’s a will, there are 500 relatives”

Celeb Wednesday
Celebrity Wednesday on Top Morning. It is the day when we get the opportunity to make celebrities out of everyday people that have contributed one thing or the other to our lives. There is also an opportunity to ask the celebrity for the week the questions that have been nagging at us.
But first, we had the traffic and weather updates from different places. For places like: Ajangbadi, Ahmadiya, Sango, Agbado-Ijaiye, Ogudu, Ota, Third Mainland Bridge, Berger, Akute, Ketu and Ojota, the traffic was light while in places like: Ojo, Agric, Abule-Egba, Sasha, Akowonjo, Iju, Agege, Mile 2 and Agiliti, the traffic was quite heavy. The weather in most places was cool and some people even anticipated rainfall today.
For the Yarn-Free Zone, we listened to songs from Darey- Not the girl; Infinity- Ife; and Etcetera- Love should last. All these were the different ways Naija artiste expressed their opinions about love. From Nigerian music, we listened to some alternative music.
For Top 9 Moments, Aramide told us about the Central Bank’s {CBN} decision to bar banks from trading foreign exchange sourced from the official market among themselves, in a bid to curb the rising speculative activities in the nation’s foreign exchange market. Next, there was some news about the death of the Chairman, House Committee on Privatization and Commercialization- Hon Ahmed Njidda Gella after a suspected cardiac arrest yesterday. Former US president- Bill Clinton met North Korean leader Kim Jong Il in attempt to free 2 US journalists sentenced to 12 years of hard labour.
The celebrity for today was none other than: Dare Art Alade {Undareyted}. He talked about his life, music and other interests. He also let us in on his up-coming projects; his soon-to-be-released videos; his intended collabo with top international music artistes. he also shared with us that he has a soft spot for artistes like: Jay-Z, Nat King Cole, Snoop Dogg, Beyonce and John Legend. He recently got 2 nominations on the Channel O Music Video Award and we hoping and praying he does bring home one or more awards.
Darey signed out on the show at 10:56 am.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

Town hall Tuesday
Any given Tuesday on Top Morning is known as: ‘Townhall Area’. It is the only opportunity for people to voice out the grievances they have about their areas. They lay their complaints and hope that the government will listen and do something about them. This morning, as usual, there were complaints about PHCN- many people complained that they haven’t had power supply in months. Some other people complained about the ASUU strike, pleading the government will look into it and call off the strike. Aside these, there were other complaints about potholes, gutters and projects that begin but never come to an end due to neglect by the government.
For the traffic update, places like: Iyana-Ipaja, Aboru, Yaba, Oko-Oba, Mangoro, Mushin, Agric, Mile 2 and Agiliti were not free this morning. Whereas Ikotun Egbe, idimu, Ikorodu, Palm-grove, Iju, 3rd Mainland Bridge, Ketu, Barracks, Sholuyi and Apapa were very free this morning. The weather update from most places was cool and breezy.
For the Yarn-Free Zone today, we listened to songs like: 9 Million Bicycle by Katie Melua; Breath by Faith Hills; and Friends Forever by Vitamin C. There possibly couldn’t have been a better way to have it on a Tuesday morning on Top Morning with Tosyn Bucknor.
During the Public Forum today, the discussion centred about the things people do to get by on a daily basis. People were to share the things or thoughts that keep them going even when things are tough. The responses were quite interesting and inspiring. Some people said that they get by by just reminding themselves that there is hope that other days will be better than the present. Some other people get by when they see each day as a challenge and an opportunity to do something new and improve on themselves.
On Top 9 Moments with Aramide, we learnt that the presumed leader of the Movement of the Niger Delta {MEND} was attacked by suspected armed robbers along the Abeokuta Expressway on Sunday evening. A Judge in Los Angeles has named Michael Jackson’s mother- Katherine Jackson as the permanent guardian of his 3 children. She was also granted a monthly allowance MJ’s estate. Nick Cannon has finally responded to Eminem’s beef against him and his wife. He used replied in a shocking manner- using both inspirational and biblical quotes to say that he was going to let the matter slide. On the sports scene, we heard that Real Madrid have taken out an insurance policy on Cristiano Ronaldo in the event of serious injury curtailing his career.
On the How-To Show, Tosyn called our attention to some dangerously-applicable tips on: ‘how to be a nobody at what you do’. You sure can’t imagine how much she taught us on how to jeopardise things in your profession. There were also text messages that revealed that she wasn’t alone in the race to help people become the worst they can ever be at their professions if her advices are adhered to.
Much Love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

Energetic monday
After every eventful weekend, there’s just one way to start the week on Top Radio. It is another Energetic Monday on Top Radio with Area Mama herself. This morning, apart from getting traffic updates and weather reports, the aim was to formulate new words that will enter the ‘Area Dictionary’. Trust ‘Area People’ now, they all came up with different words, some of which couldn’t even be spelt. We heard words like: supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from the Area Mama herself; jigijibambam; pasalakulala; zanga; efizi, acrobaesthetic; oolalacious; gatherlization... among others. You sure can’t do better, can you?
For the traffic reports, people plying routes such as: Bariga, Third Mainland Bridge, Isolo, Dopemu, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ishasi, Berger, Ogba, Barracks, Mosalai, Agiliti, and Iyana-Ipaja had it rough this morning. While Ikeja, Sholuyi, Gbagada and Gbagada were quite free this morning. The weather was cool and a bit breezy in several areas.
In the Yarn-Free Zone today, Daughtery treated us to some of his inspiring songs. On Memory Lane today, we drove down car history. This means that Sweet 16 made us talk about the cars that have ever existed in our lives at one point or the other. We were to talk about all the beautiful experiences and the not-so –beautiful ones we’ve had with the cars we owned or otherwise. Several people called in to share both their wonderful and dreadful experiences. There was also an opportunity for people to comment about Memory Lane. They were to state whether or not they like it and whatever else can be done to make it better. This can be done by joining the Facebook page and making a comment.
On Top 9 Moments, Aramide told us about a Nigerian military official who said that about 700 ppeople were killed in Maiduguri during the recent fighting between police and a radical Islamic sect. There was also something on the entertainment scene about Mariah Carey and Eminem. There’s an on-going feud between the people and this week, the latter released a track titled ‘The Warning’, which is believed to be directed at Mariah and her husband. There is a powerful new type of Internet attack that works like a telephone tap, except that it operates between computers and Websites they trust. Michael Phelps has become the first swimmer to break 50 seconds in the 100-metre butterfly.
After the Top 9 Moments, we had the weekend review from several people and Tosyn signed out at a few minutes to 11.

REFLECTIVE THURSDAY WITH DISNEY
REFLECTIVE THURSDAY WITH DISNEY
Today was REFLECTIVE THURSDAY and it reflected (pun intended) in the songs Tosyn played, which were, well, a lil bit cooler than usual. After AREAAAAA! where we had people from all over Lagos and Ogun states representing different schools, some, high schools e.g. St. Finbarrs College and some, representing higher institutions e.g. LASU, Ikorodu campus. The yarn-free zone today was themed FAIRYTALE CLASSICS and Tosyn played Beauty & the beast from the animated movie with the same title and she also played “poor unfortunate soul “ and “under the sea”, both from Little Mermaid. Hmmh, nostalgia
We later went ONLINE REALTIME, here, listeners are supposed to write on our facebook wall, for members of the group, or send in texts to let us know what you’re doing online orjust whats happening online generally. A listener sent in a text saying he had forgotten that today was his birthday and only remembered when he heard the date on radio. How does that happen?! I mean nobody called him? Then there was a gist from OMG about Entourage, involving something they said on the show about Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogers, I gather Seth was furious that they said someone like him couldn’t have gotten a girl like Katherine in real life. Seth no vex now, monkey no fine, but im mama like am

Tosyn rhymed here today; "whether the weather is hot or whether the weather is cold, no matter the weather, we'll weather the weather whether we like it or not" she try abi? oya VIP kids clap 4 tosyn...heeeeeeeeeeeee
Then we went on to PROVERBS LANE, where you had to call, give a proverb in your language and translate to english, funny enough, many of the proverbs given had english counterparts like, “vanity upon vanity, all is vanity” and “pride goes before a fall”. On the SING A STORY segment today, love was really in the air, many ladies sang songs like D’banj’s “fall in love” for their guys and many guys also sang different love songs for current and soon-to-be girlfriends. A man sang P-squares “No one like you” for his wife (how romantic) for taking him as he is. Some renditions were really nice, while some made me almost turn off the radio (lol) but its the spirit behind the song that really matters not the song itself, abi?
Thats all for today. See you tomorrow
