RANDOMIZING YOUR THURSDAY!

On the Top of the Morning show today Thursday, 27th August, 2009, things were really unpredictable as we started off with the AREA! show, where the only thing that gets you on the show is shouting AREA! and Tosyn, in true random Thursday style, asked callers to mention the people they can see in their neighbourhood; you might recall that we started “randomizing” our Thursdays a few weeks ago where we started with “read something jo!” and then we were talking about fears last week; we had pap sellers, breadsellers, agberos, and even the milk van and newspaper boy inside Bayo’s dreams from the United Streets of Amukoko (USA).lol. On PROVERBS LANE, where we usually have proverbs in any language other than English and then translate them into English, we had proverbs from isokoland, yorubaland, iboland, etc someone even gave us one proverb in English, Yoruba and Ibo. We then went ONLINE REALTIME where listeners sent in texts to let us know what they were doing online right then, many people were either facebooking, twitting or doing both, a lady was applying for jobs over the internet and I think she dropped some information for other job seekers on our facebook page, people were on eBay, YouTube, Yahoo!, someone was saying that she hadn’t gotten a reply to the email she sent to Tola Sunmonu of Harambee Nigeria.

Please note that the Harambee 2.0 annual conference takes place tomorrow, 28th, August at Shell hall, MUSON centre, Onikan by 8am, the theme of the conference is “Planting Seeds of Tomorrow” and Admission is Free. MI is expected to be there and lunch is served. To make reservations and for more details, check out www.hendeavor.org ,send a mail to harambeenigeria@yahoo.com or search for their facebook group. You can also send a text to 08071949742.

EXCERPTS OF TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE
• The NYSC director-general has directed all zonal offices across Nigeria not to post corps members to troubled areas, in compliance with President Yar'adua’s directive
• President Barrack Obama has said that he is heartbroken at Senator Ted Kennedy, JFK’s brother’s death. He died at the age of 87 on Tuesday, 25th august after fighting brain cancer for about a year.
• A cabdriver in New Jersey got more than he bargained for recently when he picked a bank robber unknowingly, the passenger had told him to wait while he takes out some money at the bank, the driver not knowing he was going to rob, waited. The police stopped them a couple of blocks later and arrested the passenger. This economic depression sef, desperate times...
• In their latest attempt to reduce cost and generate funds, the State of California has resorted to selling thousands of surplus items on eBay and in a warehouse auction.
• A federal appeal court in the United States has overturned a ruling that granted the copyrights of the software, UNIX to Novell.

• Good News!!! Christ embassy’s devotional, “Rhapsody of realities” is going to be free from September, about 10 million copies will be distributed nationwide.
• “we can’t all be heroes because somebody has to sit on the curb as they pass by”

On SING A STORY, our “randomizing” continued because everybody had a different story to sing, no two stories were the same; while someone sang “Glory, glory Lord...” someone else sang “Aye pogan...”, there was quite an amount of appreciation to God sha, from “wellu wellu” to “boundless love” to “sope tie” to “glory glory”, and as always, we had “loooots of love”, the most touching story today though, which actually brought tears to my eyes was the story of the man who lost his wife in childbirth over a year ago, though the child lived, and somehow, he was still able to find the strength to sing Sammie Okposo’s “wellu wellu”, we should all take a cue from him, he’s a man who views his cup as half-full rather than half-empty. We pray for more strength for him(it can never be too much now) and we also pray for the lady who lost her mother recently, we ask for strength and comfort for you.

That’s all for today. Till tomorrow. Stay blessed

Ciao

Celebrity Wednesday

when you tune to Top Radio 90.9 at 6:30 in the morning and you hear a pleasant feminine voice, have no doubt about it; you're listeneing to Tosyn Bucknor on Top of the Morning. she does her 'thing' on Mondays through Fridays alongside Area MAma, Double 09, Sweet 17 and the VIP kids, with each day having a totally different package from the other days. Today is Celebrity Wednesday and it is the day of the week when on the Area Show, people get the rare opportuinty of making everyday poeple celebrities for the day and it is on the same day that famous celebrities stroll into the studio and tell us a bit about themselves. but before all these, there are usually traffic and weather updates from different places across the state. Traffic and weather Updates:need I mention that the first update for today came in when K-banj, or Edoyak {as Area MAma likes to call him} called? So everyone who's been itching to hear Edoyak's voice but didn't listen to the show this morning obviously missed out. there was light traffic at places like: ikorodu, maryland, sagamu, shasha, mafoluku, iwo, iju, mangoro, cement, oshodi, ogijo, amukoko and magboro. however, the traffic at Abule Egba, Oko-Oba, Ikeja, 3rd Mainland bridge, alagbole and berger was quite heavy. the weather was cold and breezy in all these places. In Yarn Free Zone today, we listened to songs by Etcetra, Rooftop Mcs and Lucid Storm. and from then on, it was music, music and more music on the show. Top 9 Moments with Aramide:-a website for higher education professionals has announced results of a survey on Twitter usage and trends among college faculty. the survey of approximately 2000 higher education professionals found that nearly one-third of the respondents say they use twitter in some capacity.-thousands of people welcomed South African runner, Caster Semenya on her return to Johannesburg airport yesterday, as local athletics officials slammed the decision to test the champion's gender. -authorities say the mother of a Florida girl suffocated by a pet python last month has been charged in the child's death. 19-year old Jaren Ashley and her boyfriend, 32-year old Jason Darnell, were each charged on Monday with manslaughter, 3rd degree murder and child abuse after 2-year old Shaianna died July 1.-Gabon's men should go on a 'sex strike' if a man wins this weekends presidential poll, an opposition leader said on Tuesday, saying the country needs a woman as a leader.-2 turkeys are recovering after being cut open by drug smugglers and stuffed with 5 kg of cocaine. Police were amazed to find the drug surgically implanted in the bloated birds in Peru.-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is optimistic Cesc Fabregas will be available for the weekend's clash against MAnchester United. At 10:00am, it was time for Celebrity Special. Today's celebrity is an international artiste who has worked so hard to gain the respect and loyalty of her fans. It was no ther person than Whitney Houston. A brief look into her background:She was born August 9, 1963. her mum, aunt and godmother were all prominent Soul singers: Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. she started singing in church and her talent was discovered by Arista Record label's head, Clive Dans. She got married to Bobby Brown in fron tof 800 people by the marriage ended in 2006. She also dated Ray J- Brandy's brother. Rumours of drug use began in the 90s. she began cancelling shows and appearances. she wasn't giving her best at performances and when she featured in Bobby Brown's reality show, they both seemed like crazy coz of the looks and mannerisms. when confronted about her addiction, she said: 'crack is cheap, i don't do crack, it is whack'. She's the CEO of Whitney Houston Foundation for Children. she will appear again on Oprah Winfrey Show next month. 'I look to you' is her first and latest album since 2002.there was no better way for Tosyn to sign out on the show than to play one of Whitney's lastest songs: 'like i never left', in which she featured Akon.Much love,Ruthina Atinuke.
CELEBRITY WEDNESDAY WITH WHITNEY

Today on the Top of the Morning show with Tosyn Bucknor on Top radio, 90.9fm was “sope tie” as it was time to appreciate the people in our lives in our own little way by making them celebrities and as usual, lots of mothers were celebrated, I love Africa! in general, Nigeria in particular, Oyo state specifically, the corner of my house precisely.... (just kidding) but I really love Africa because we value family a lot and that is one thing I wouldn’t trade for a million dollars... maybe for a billion sha, just kidding again o! lol, I wouldn’t trade my family for anything! Anyway most of our celebrities today were family members, brothers, fathers, mothers ... we felt lots of love in the studio today along with a hint of something else, something... I don’t know how to put this, but it might have been responsible for Tosyn’s “high” state today, don’t say I told you o.

TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE
• Chris Brown has been sentenced to 5 years probation and 180 days community work for hitting Rihanna.
• Bangladesh police men are trying to improve their confidence and appearance. They have approached the owner of a beauty parlour to give some 140 new recruits tips on looking good.
• Researchers have found out that most people search for new information to confirm what they believe, and usually just ignore contrary information.
• Facultyfocus, a website for higher education professionals, which carried out a survey on Twitter usage has discovered that more than half of the people researched don’t use Twitter at all while about one-third use twit
• South African star, Semanya has returned home to a heroes welcome along with her teammates as her “countrypeople” slammed IAAF for even thinking about carrying out a gender test on her.
• The19-year-old mother of the 2-year-old girl who was suffocated to death by an 8-foot long pet python in Florida on the 1st of July has been charged along with her boyfriend with manslaughter, child abuse and 3rd-degree murder.
• An opposition leader in Gabon has declared that all men should go on a sex strike if a man should win this weekend’s presidential poll (hunh?), he said the country needs a woman and that all men should sleep with their clothes on. Is this a joke or sum’n? In Africa?! A man actually opened his mouth to say that a woman would be a better leader?!! Wow, these are really the endtimes?lol
• Two turkeys in Peru who were surgically implanted with 4.8kg of cocaine are recovering after they were discovered by the police after a tip-off
• Arsene Wenger has said that Fabregas who was injured recently will be available for the match against Manchester United this weekend
• “the man who makes no mistakes makes nothing at all”

THE WEATHER REPORT
The sun rose at 6:40 am and is expected to set at 6:56pm. Expect early morning light drizzle, wind-chill and cold conditions continue, so do stay warm until about midday when it gets warmer. The maximum temperature for today is 29 degree Celsius and minimum temperature and overnight low is 22 degree Celsius.

Quite unfortunately, our celebrity pulled a no-show on us, but as that lepa-to-bad, sweet seventeen would say, “nothing do us”. We had CELEBRITY SPECIAL with WHITNEY HOUSTON (her name has to be written in capital letters you know, she’s a gbogbo bigz girls o)
Whitney started singing very early in her church choir, her mother and aunt were soul singers, her mother was Diane Houston and, wait for it... her godmother is Aretha Franklin! The Queen of Soul herself! She got married to Bobbi Brown, which was a big surprise because Whitney used to be seen as a “good” girl while Bobbi was the “bad” one. During the Bobbi Brown reality show, she was portrayed as a (hmmh) sorta crazy person, and her life almost literally went downhill from there, she started cancelling shows and acting somewhat dodgy, there were rumours of drug use, but Whitney said in an interview that “crack is cheap, we don’t do crack, crack is wack”. She is reported to have dated Ray jay, Brandy’s younger brother, did someone say “cradle-sna...” I didn’t say anything o, how old is that boy again sef. Whitney is reported to have helped a lot of other artistes up, Mary J Blige, Beyonce, Leona Lewis, Robin Thicke among others credit Whitney as an influence in their careers. She was a fashion model and was the first person of colour (I think that’s the “politically correct” term now no longer black or coloured, abeg na dem sabi) to grace the covers of Seventeen! Magazine, she is a pretty good actress and has acted in a lot of movies, she was in “The Bodyguard” with Kevin Costner, “Preachers wife” with Denzel Washington, and “Waiting to Exhale”, there was no hot guy in that one sha, :). Whitney has a new album out, her first since 2002, titled “I look to you” which featueres, Alicia Keys, Akon and some other people. She is scheduled to appear on Oprah next month, that’s a must-watch show.

That’s all for today. Enjoy the rest of the day and the week. Till tomorrow

BRAGGING RIGHTS TUESDAY – OMO NA SWAGGER SWAGGER...

The Top of the Morning show today, Tuesday, 25th August, 2009 was highly “fantabulous” ! On the AREA! show, callers had to get their swagger on since today was Bragging Rights Tuesday, where every caller and texter had to mention one thing they really like about their Areas, one thing they were proud of in contrast to our former Town hall Tuesdays where we used to talk about the things we don’t like, it’s all about keeping a positive mentality sha. We had a very excited caller from shogun estate, ogba who said he likes his area because it’s very entertaining and there are different types of people there, someone from Talbot road, Ijebu-ode said his area is the best because they all look good everyday, another caller from Ipaja says his area encourages commerce because there are many shops there, Dr. Lee called, this time not from third mainland bridge but from his Area! sawmill-bariga` and said he likes his area because it’s cool and there are no fighting in the streets.

On VERSUS SPECIAL, it was an animal something as we had Cats vs. Dogs. I must confess that the moment I heard the topic, I just knew... how can you pitch dogs against cats?! In Nigeria?! After all our possessed cat movies and witches turning into cats movies?! It’s dogs that will win now! We’re a much too spiritual country...lol. Anyway, the dogs won, as I expected and it was a landslide victory! I mean, it was like comparing kokolettes bolanle and shona’s votes (lol) it was that bad. The people who voted for cats gave reasons like, they don’t tear up your most expensive pair of jeans as a form of play, they kill rats, they are clean and those that didn’t like them said they are scary (that was a pretty general reason, I think it’s because of the eyes though), they were insensitive in contrast to dogs, I think cats can be very self-absorbed creatures;has anyone watched Garfield?! lol, okay maybe I’m judging all cats based on one movie but... anyway, we have a cat in my house, there was one evening I was alone with the cat in the house and they took light, I couldn’t bear to touch it so I couldn’t carry it outside and I was also too scared to stay in the house alone with the cat, who knows if he will just turn into a bloodsucking monster or sum’n. lol. I had to leave the house for yanni (thats the cats name) o,lol, at least until someone else came

And lots more...

That’s all for today. Till tomorrow

Ciao
Bragging Rights Tuesday- that’s the particular day on the Area Show when everyone gets to blow the trumpet about their areas. They blow the trumpet about their areas and make it seem like the best place to live. It is also the day for the Versus Special. This is another segment on the show when songs are played and a song says the same thing as the next one such that one is left to choose the songs that best explain how one feels at the moment. The show then rounds off with the How To Show, which comes after the Yarn-Free Zone and Top 9 Moments.
Traffic updates came from Sango, Lambe, Sagamu, Oke-Odo, MAgboro, ALakuko, Agbado, Abule Egba, Berger, Ikorodu, Ajah, and Badagry; the traffic in these places was quite heavy. On the other hand, Egbeda, Idimu, Agege, Ogijo, Ilupeju and Third Mainland Bridge were quite free. It rained pretty much in some places this morning. When it was time to brag, people said nice things about their areas; things like: the security level of their area, the calmness, the availability of power supply, the accessibility to water supply, the calmness of the area and the presence of ‘bukas’ in strategic places in some areas.
In the Yarn-Free Zone today, we listened to Craig David as he sang ‘Rise and Fall’, Sting as he sang ‘Shape of my heart’, and Michael Jackson singing ‘One more chance’. For the ‘versus’ on the Versus Special for today was between the cats and the dogs. The idea was to choose the one that is better preferred between the cat and the dog. At a point on the show, it seemed as though there was no need for the question coz very few people professed any likeness for cat because most of the votes were cast in favour of the dogs. Oops!
Top 9 Moments with Aramide:
• The 11th annual Victory Over Diabetes event, hosted by the American Diabetes Association {ADA}, kicks off in Atlanta in August 29, featuring singer/songwriter- Angie Stone and Lily USA. This free day-long event also supported by ETNA, educates and empowers African-Americans living with Diabetes to better manage the disease by providing educational tools and culturally relevant resources.
• Few things can be more neighbourly than offering your kidney to a friend. 2 Kansas City women have lived next door to each other for 30 years but Claudine Jackson and Jo Ann Walz really got to know each other after Walz donated her kidney to Jackson. The 2 had always been friendly but have grown much closer over the past 3 years as Walz helped with rides for dialysis treatments, appointments and the grocery store.
• Unfaithful spouses in France are to be warned that passionate text messages sent to mistresses and lovers can now be used as evidence against them in a divorce. Experts say the recent ruling by Frances’ Supreme Court to accept phone exchanges as legitimate proof of adultery will make it easier for the French to get divorced.
• Ryan Jenkins has ended his life in a suicide in a remote Canadian Motel room and the Police had sought the ex-Reality Show contestant in the killing of his ex-wife. He was accused of killing his ex-wife, a model whose body was badly mutilated when found in a trash bin outside Los Angeles.
• A critically ill teenager denied a Liver transplant because his condition is drink-related and is to be flown to a Specialist Hospital Unit. Gareth Anderson, 19, suffered liver failure after a weekend of drinking and there are fears he could die soon.
• Readers’ Digest Association Inc., publisher of the Iconic General Interest Magazine that began gracing American homes in 1922, yesterday filed for chapter 11 on bankruptcy protection as it faces falling print circulation in the internet age and looming debt payments.
• Arjen Robben has forced Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez to reassess his player sales plan.
• Chris Chaplauske carries on a time-honoured tradition of trying to make money on the streets of New York in an unusual way- selling bad advice. The 32-year old advertises his ‘service’ with a sign that reads: ‘bad advice $1’.
• The Scottish Justice Secretary today defended the release of the Lockerbie bomber. Kenny MacAskill told an emergency session of the Scottish Parliament that it had been his ‘own decision’ to free Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi, adding that he stood by ‘the law and values of Scotland’.
After the Top 9 Moments, it was music, music and more music until 10 am when it was time for the How-To-Show. Today’s topic was: ‘How to be a music superstar with zero fans’. Brilliant topic, right? The rules are as follows:
1. Be very selfish. Sing for yourself and not for the benefit of the people who would listen;
2. During a concert, throw yourself into the crowd and when they part like the Red Sea and you fall hard on the ground, stand up and fight all of them for not catching you. Being a Rock Star is a no-nonsense business o!!
3. Even if one person by mistake likes your music and tries to tell you, accuse them of mocking you and being an enemy of progress. Don’t you know that some of these so-called fans are spies in disguise?
4. Release a song in which you attack the fans and tell them how foolish they are for not buying your albums, but they would instead buy all the nonsense in the industry.
5. When one fan feels sorry for you and decides to ask for your autograph just to make you happy, chase him with cutlass, asking him whether you look like you’re desperate for fans.
6. Make-up a back story for yourself that the few fans you have would eventually find out is all a lie.
7. Release lyrics that can turn anyone who listens into suicidal stalkers; that way, there would be no-one left to become a fan.
8. It is a taboo to have a unique style: Copy everything and everyone that is popular. Since photocopy is only 2 naira, just copy everyone and everything on music
9. Finally make it your life’s work to go around the world preaching to students like you How to be a Music Superstar with no fans.
Now, those were the tips given by Double but of course, lots of text messages came in and there were lots of suggestions regarding the topic. Anyone who chooses to practice any of these will definitely get the corresponding result. Remember, it is your choice.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

OVERGASTED JOLLIFIED MONDAY!!!

The Top of the Morning show today, Monday, 24th August, 2009 was ... well ... “Energetic” (like duh-uh) :-). The AREA! show was the bomb, we had calls and texts from all over Lagos and Ogun state and our AREA! Dictionary had a lot of additions, my ears almost explode with all the new big big words I heard, I won’t bother spelling them because they are simply “unspellable. Going down MEMORY LANE, we were talking about examinations, the good, the bad and the ugly, you know now, you remember that time you were writing that exam and you got stuck and… a lot of callers and texters told us about their experiences, it was real fun, brought about this nostalgic feeling, those were the days jare. On WEEKEND REVIEW, ‘s like most of the members of the AREA! family really had fun this past weekend o, from parties to soccer victories to finishing one thousand naira suya to “Love web” on Sunday to “Girl power” on Saturday to “Sincerely men” to Yaw’s birthday which he celebrated at the Down’s syndrome home in Surulere to ... in fact the list is endless.

EXCERPTS OF TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE

THE WEATHER REPORT
The sun rose at 6:40 am and is expected to set at 7:57pm. Expect early morning light drizzle, wind-chill and cold conditions continue, so do stay warm until midday when it gets warmer. Our TOP QUESTION for today was, “Who should say I love you first in a relationship? The guy or the babe?” and as you would expect, the reactions to this question were... lemme just say, thank God it wasn’t a show with a live audience, we mighta had to scatter some fights.lol. Many babes seem to take the saying “once bitten twice shy” very seriously o, as some ladies said after saying it to a guy and he broke up with them, they have refused to say it again, a particular lady, Busayo said she said “I love you” first to her former boyfriend and the guy took her for granted, because of that, she has refused to say it to her present boyfriend and their relationship is two-years old! Another lady, Judy, from Lekki said she finds it difficult to say those words since her break-up last year. All-in-all sha, nobody won o, some said the guy, others said the woman, but the texts were just too many to finish reading. Thanks to everyone that listened, that called in, that sent a text, that took up the debate at home, in the bus, or at work; “we are because you are”, we do not take you for granted, you are highly appreciated, thanks and God bless.

That’s all for today. Have a wonderful week

Ciao

Energetic Monday

There’s just one way to keep the energy level high on a Monday morning; by making it a date with Tosyn Bucknor on Top Radio 90.9. The reason is quite simple- it’s Energetic Monday with Area Mama, Double 09, Sweet 17 and of course, the VIP kids. The custom is to keep the energy level high from 6 am to 11 am when Tosyn signs out on the show.
Every Monday morning, new words are added to the Area Dictionary that is being compiled by Area Mama and her crew. The new words that were created this morning include words like: ‘aponky’, ‘xanbad’, ‘geabenscy’, ‘chocologo’ and ‘jolified’, all meaning ‘cool’. There were also words like: ‘overghasted’, ‘flabberwhelmed’, both meaning ‘excited’; ‘pambolaboiish’, meaning ‘great’; ‘lelicule’, meaning ‘ready for the week’; and ‘billionaira’, meaning ‘billionaire in naira’.
As for the traffic update, Marina, Ikotun, Ibafo, Ogba, Abule Egba, Oregun, Akogun, Lagos-Ibadan expressway and Ogijo were quite free this morning. On the other hand, there was a heavy traffic at places like: Ojota, Ketu, Sagam, Akowonjo, Dopemu, Agbado, Oshodi, Ikorodu, Alapere and Ishaga. In all these places, the weather was quite cold.
When we entered the Yarn-Free Zone this morning, we listened to songs by: The All American Rejects, Blink 182 and Aerosmith. They sang: it ends tonight, all the small things and crying, respectively. After the Yarn-Free Zone, it was time to travel down memory lane. Today, it was all about examination- the good, the bad and the ugly experiences of writing exams in primary and secondary school. People shared different experiences of how they used to have examination fever, and fainting a few days before the beginning of their papers and even going blank in the examination after reading and sometimes cramming all night long. Others talked about how they cheated or taught other people during examinations. Some even shared the stories of their successes and failures as students. It was interesting to learn different methods of ‘giraffing’ and ‘dubbing’ just make sure one goes home with a good result after an academic session.
After this, it was time for the Top 9 Moments with Aramide;
· The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission {EFCC} has declared wanted the recently sacked Chief Executive Officer of Oceanic International Bank Plc, Cecilia Ibru, and her Intercontinental Bank Plc counterpart, Erastus Akingbola.
· The Brazillian health ministry has created a website to let people inform partners they’ve got STD via an e-mail virtual postcard.
· With increasing vigor, Public Health and Think Tanks are calling for extra taxes on foods and drinks that are heavy in calories and light on nutrition. New York governor, David Paterson proposed an 18% soda tax last year as a budget-balancing measure, only to abandon it 3 months later in the face of stiff public opposition. Now, Lawmakers in at least 5 other states have gone on the record in support of the idea.
· Plaxico Burress’ lawyer says a Prison Consultant is preparing the former super bowl star for life behind bars after he pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He accidentally shot himself in the thigh at a Manhattan nightclub last year.
· Larry Ellison, the Chief Executive of Oracle Corp will take a base salary of $i in fiscal 2010. Oracle’s decision to pay him the nominal salary, down from the $1 million he was paid in fiscal 2009 and the 2 previous years, brings the CEO’s base pay into line with the Apple Inc. Chief Executive, Steve Jobs, who also gets just $1 in base salary.
· Police said a suspicious package at a store turned shipping store turned out to be a box of live Boa Constrictors.
· A South Carolina woman has won a $2 million jury verdict against a dental clinic that mistakenly pulled out all 13 of her upper teeth. The 28-year old Elizabeth Smith wanted 3 teeth pulled when she went to the dental clinic in 2006 but the dentist pulled out 16 of them.
· Manchester City striker, Emmanuel Adebayor, has told Sir Alex Ferguson that Manchester City will finish above Man-Utd this season.
At 10 am, it was time for the Top Question for the day. The question was: who should be the first to declare love to the other first- the male or the female? As expected, there were different answers and different reasons as well. Lots of people said the man should say ‘I love you’ first because men are to always take the lead. Some others suggested that the lady should say it first since she’s the emotional ones while a few others anyone who experiences love first should profess it, regardless of whether it is a he or a she. Interesting, isn’t it?
It was on this interesting note that Tosyn signed out on the show.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

After this, it was time for the Top 9 Moments with Aramide;

Feel Good Friday

There’s just one day of the week when everyone is allowed to feel good, break as many rules as you ever can with your voice as you sing your own version of Area on the Area Show with the one and only Double 09. She working alongside Area Mama, Sweet 17 and the ‘tush’ Tosyn Bucknor and their only mission is to keep making you feel good as you step into the weekend. The tradition for the last day of the week is to sing a song during the Area Show, and make a loud shout-out to loved ones after the Area Show. What an interesting combo for the beginning of the weekend.
The traffic and weather update:
· Ikeja, Ikorodu, Ketu, Maryland, Opebi, Mangoro, Maryland, Yaba, Alakuko, Ogba, Berger, Lagos-Ibadan expressway and Akute were quite free this morning;
· There was a heavy traffic at places like: Abule Egba, Iyana-Ipaja, Agbado-Ijaiye, IJu, 3rd Mainland Bridge, and Fagba
· The weather was cold this morning at most places in Lagos State.
The Yarn-Free Zone today was all about Rooftop Mcs, doing ‘Rooftop’; Nicky Laoye, singing ‘Kaleidoscope’; and Taylor Swift, singing ‘You’re not sorry’.
Top 9 Moments:
· Will-I-Am would love to say ‘I told you so’ to all the people who have bashed the Black Eyed Peas in the past, but he won’t even though the group just made history on the billboard charts.
· A Florida woman was duped into changing diapers and providing care for a man she met through Craiglist who feigned disabilities. Turns out the man who hired Janet Schulte to look after an adult brother with diminished mental capacity was the same guy she bottle-fed and treated like a child for 3 months.
· Amidst waves and wildlife in the world’s oceans, billions of pounds of Styrofoam, water bottles, fishing wire and other plastic products floats in endless circles.
· According to research by a new online photo verification site, over 80% of online daters have suspected that profile images being used online are fakes and over a third have actually discovered that a person’s identity does nbot match that of their online persona.
· Octo-mom Nadya Suleman expresses more regret for trying to raise 14 kids on her own. She believes she has screwed up her life by trying to raise so many kids without a father figure.
· A day after winning her first 800meter world title amid a gender test world title amid a gender-test controversy, the father of South African teenager, Caster Semenya, dismissed speculation that his daughter is not a woman.
· A Tunisian health official says a woman who claimed she was pregnant with 12 babies underwent a medical examination that showed she is not pregnant.
· The head of the Caribbean Nation’s Sports Federation, Jose Barrietos said that women’s boxing is ‘inappropriate’ and Cuban women will therefore not be able to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games
After the Top 9 Moments, there were lots and lots of shout outs and then came the weekend preview and a bit of news. First, there was something about the musical group called ‘Amplifyd’ breaking up; Lara George and Kel’s album release. Some musicians will be going on a hunger strike come August 25, to draw the attention of the govt and relevant agencies against piracy. This weekend, the 2009 Bankers’ games will continue. There’s also ‘Girl power’, a show that will bring several female artistes together as they perform live. Lover’ web show also holds on Sunday in Ikeja at 4:00 pm this Sunday. After all this infotainment, Tosyn signed out at 11 am.
much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

THANK GOD ITS FRIDAY

Friday, 21st August, 2009

Today was feel-good friday on the Top of the Morning Show on Top radio 90.9fm, we had our area singing joint on AREA! and as usual, callers were extremely creative, from Rihanna's "Umbrella" remix to Ayefele's "Eni ba roku romi", thumbs up y'all, but the best call today was from the Arogundade family; Titilope, Tolulope ...lope and ...lope, (i didn't get the last two names all i heard was something-lope and something-lope), they sang beautifully and of course we were hearing their auntie's voice in the background but we felt the love and thats what matters, innit? Thanks to the Arogundade family again. Maryam Abolarinwa from ikorodu who calls practically everyday won herself some Tuface CD's and magazine, just for being constant, you see, faithfulness pays.

On the SHOUT OUT scene, Nigerians were really happy today o, a caller won himself some CD's and magazine just because of his enthusiasm and energy, keep it up bro, thats the way life is meant to be lived, another shout-out that really caught my attention was a guy that was making a shout-out to his friend that they should "squash the beef and eat up the meat!", i wonder what caused the beef, I hope it is not woman o (lol;just kidding). Tosyn played a lot of feeeeel-good songs today, I really loved the music, rooftop mc's, kel, Nikky laoye, MI, Ashionye,MO'Cheddah and lots more.

On WEEKEND REVIEW, we had quite a lot of things going on this weekend, weddings, different parties and many more, Girl Power Unleashed is this weekend, yippee, 22nd, so if be there if you're interested, theres also going to be another show in ikeja on sunday, "Lovers web". We had some news of a hunger strike planned by musicians for the 25th, the goal is to draw attention to piracy and some other things, I wonder if ALL musicians will do it, I'm sure some people will just chop, clean mouth and do face as if they're hungry.lol. We also got news that the Amplifyd crew is splitting up! aw, thats sad, I hope they all have wonderful solo careers.

EXCERPTS OF TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE

- Cuban women will not be in the 2010 competition in London because woman boxing is considered inappropriate

That's all for today

AS RANDOM AS A THURSDAY

Today, Thursday, 20th August, 2009 was as random as Thursdays go on the AREA! show with Area mama, sweet seventeen, and 009 “themselves” anchoring the show with the assistance, of course, of the ever-present, ever-ready, ever-clapping, ever-eating VIP kids. Today on the show, listeners were asked to tell us their greatest fear in the world along with the traffic and weather updates, we had some very weird answers like “Women”, I mean how can women be your greatest fear in the whole wide world... in fact let me keep quiet now before I vex too much, some gave some inspirational answers like, “the fear of failure” and “fear of the unknown” and the “fear of not making it to heaven”... they make you think about your life abi? and some were just humorous like,” the fear of gutters”.lol

Proverbs are a very important part of our ethnic makeup in Africa, a proverb in Yoruba translates as “proverbs are the horses on which words ride”, while one in ibo says “proverbs are the palm-oil with which words are eaten”, I’m sure there are more variants of this proverb and if you know one, please feel free to add. On PROVERBS LANE, we had Benin, Idoma (almost), Ibo and a lot of Yoruba proverbs, I’ll just give some literal translations; an Ibo proverb translates thus, “there’s nothing the eyes will see that it will bring out blood, it’s still water that will come out”, a Yoruba proverb, “ the fowl that defecated and did not urinate, it’s inside it’s body” (lol.what does this proverb mean anyway), and one of the proverbs that Tuface, who hails from Benue state gave us yesterday means, literally “somebody that is taking a big ball of pounded yam, that is now using it to carry a bigger ball of egusi, he’s piling trouble on top of trouble” (whew, I’m sure the original proverb is much shorter). SING A STORY was as versatile as ever with callers singing about every possible thing, lots of love of course, hurts and many many more, we then went ONLINE REALTIME, where we were able to keep in touch with our facebook and twitter people and also know those keeping in touch with us.

EXCERPTS OF TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE
• A Japanese horror DVD has been banned in Britain because of the extreme nature of its contents. It is reported to contain such an excessive amount of sadism, evisceration and the likes, that it could not even be edited.
• A gender test will be carried out on a female athlete who improved her personal best drastically in the 800m and 1500m races.
• Microsoft is asking a US circuit judge for permission to keep on selling Microsoft Office Word after a Texas court ruled that they are infringing on a patent held by another company.
• The IAAF has announced that there are no positive doping cases in the men’s 100m of the world championships.
• Two playwrights, Kodjo Mouabe from Ghana and Erin Brown from the USA, have been awarded top prizes in BBC world service and British Council international radio and playwrighting competition
• A very dumb burglar in Toronto has been arrested after leaving his wallet at the scene of his crime
• A 15-year old girl prevented a tragedy when she jumped into the drivers seat of the bus in which she was returning from day camp and pulled the emergency brakes after the driver died suddenly of a heart attack.

That’s all for today. Till tomorrow

Random Thursday

Random Thursday. That is what every Thursday on the Top Morning show is called on Top Radio 90.0. it is the only day of the week when we get to go down Proverbs Lane, sing our stories and for today, talk about our deepest fears. All of these and much more is what each Thursday has in store as the anchor- Tosyn Bucknor does her thing.
But first, there is the Area Show which is the show on which people get to display their talents by: saying, shouting or singing ‘Area’, and it is the show on which traffic updates and weather reports are received. The traffic at MAza Maza, OJo, Sango, Festac, Sagamu, Ojuelegba, Obalende, Onipanu, Dopemu, Iyana Ipaja, Mile 2 and Obanikoro was quite. However, the traffic at Ketu, 3rd Mainland Bridge, Ikorodu, Ikeja, Abule Egba, Ogba, Akute, Berger, Yaba and Egbeda was quite light. The weather was cold and breezy this morning, and it even rained at Ijebu Ode.
During the Area Show, a question was raised about people’s deepest fear. People mentioned various things they fear, including: dogs, snakes, cockroaches, travelling in planes, loneliness, death, sickness, poverty, spiritual wickedness, attacks from men of the underworld, women, and a number of people said they’re afraid of failing. Whether it is one of these or some other ones that have not been mentioned, we all have our fears. It is the mastery of our fears that makes us victorious in life.
Being a Random Thursday, a lot of randomness is allowed even in the songs we listen to. So for the Yarn Free Zone today, we listened to songs like: Delilah; Money, Money, Money by Abba; and Linkin Park’s ‘Crawling’. Couldn’t have been more random huh?
Top 9 Moments with Aramide came in this order:
· Britain’s film board has taken the unusual step of banning the sales of a Japanese horror DVD for what it says is violence so extreme that it’s inappropriate for audiences.
· The IAAF has asked the South African Athletes Federation to conduct a gender verification test on 18-year old runner, Caster Semnya, amid concerns that she does not meet the requirements to compete as a woman.
· Microsoft Corp is asking the U.S. Court of Appeals for the federal circuit to allow it to keep selling Word Software as it fights an unfavourable patent ruling.
· The IAAF has announced that there were no positive doping cases in the men’s 100 metres, the marguee event of the World Championship.
· Efo Kodjo Mawugbe, a playwright and recently, judge of Tv3’s Ghana’s most beautiful program has together with Erin Browne from the USA being awarded 2 top prizes in the BBC world service and British Council International Radio Playwriting Competition 2009.
· AS Bari has signed a preliminary deal for the sale of the serie club to American businessman, Timothy Barton.
· There is a warning by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and increasing misuse and overdoses are telling reminders of the dangers pain medications can present.
· Toronto police had very little investigating to do into a double store burglary thanks to the alleged thief leaving his wallet behind.
· The driver of a school bus carrying kids home from a day camp died from a heart attack yesterday but a 15-yr-old girl prevented a greater tragedy by jumping into his seat and pulling the emergency brake.
After the Top 9 Moments, Tosyn took us on a trip into people’s world via the internet. Different sites such as twitter, facebook etc were visited and some information were shared. Tosyn signed out at 11 am.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

TUFACE IN THE HOUSE!!!

WEDNESDAY, 19TH AUGUST, 2009

The Top of the Morning show on Top Radio 90.9 today, Thursday, 19th August, 2009 with Innocent Idibia aka 2-baba, aka 2face was the bomb! the studio was flooded with calls and texts, but funny enough, contrary to my expectations, the ladies didn’t call as much as the guys, I thought the ladies would be the ones that just couldn’t have enough of this guy.

The AREA! show was very dynamic today, with callers from Abule-egba, Bariga, Yaba, Oshodi, Ikorodu, Egbeda, Sagamu, and even Ilorin! Most people today were celebrating family members, mothers, fathers, brothers and entire families, there was even a lady who used the opportunity to make her entire family celebrities forever!:) We’d like to use this opportunity to thank all members of the AREA! family, all our regular callers, especially people from Ikorodu, we seem to have a large fanbase there, you’re highly appreciated and we also want to make you our celebrities forever...

We had a representative, Tola Sunmonu from Harambee Nigeria, an African youth Initiative with a focus on revitalizing the agricultural sector, because they believe that our economic success as Africans depends on that sector. She spoke about the initiative, but focused more on their upcoming annual conference, Harambee 2.0, which will take place on the 28th of August at Shell hall, MUSON centre, Onikan by 8am, the theme of the conference is “Planting Seeds of Tomorrow” and ... wait for it, wait for it... Admission is Free! There’ll be entertainment(MI is gonna be there) and lunch is served (yippee), it’s sponsored by Zenith Bank, Tantalizers and many others, (hence the “freeness”), so if you’re young, youthful , going to be in Lagos next week and you have plans for Friday, cancel it! ‘cos Harambee 2.0 is the place to be. To make reservations and for more details, check out www.hendeavor.org or send a mail to harambeenigeria@yahoo.com or their facebook group. Tuface almost set the studio on fire today with all the calls and text messages, so many people wanted to know when he was getting married, haba Nigerians, abeg leave the guy alone jare, at least he already has five children and three “companions”, what does he need marriage for after that. Tuface was so hot that even after the Top of the Morning show, they refused to let him leave the studio o, the sports guys asked him to stay and talk about his “HyperTech” football club, and , Mr. nice guy that he is, he obliged. To get in touch with Tuface, check out his website www.infinit2.com or call 08023241089.

Celebrity Wednesday

Probably the most anticipated day on Top Morning with Tosyn Buchnor, Celebrity Wednesday comes your way as it does on every 3rd day of the week. It is that day of the week when we get the rare privilege of letting people know we appreciate them by making celebrities out of everyday people around us. It could be the Vendor on our street, the woman selling food in our area, construction site workers, diligent law enforcement agents, a wonder friend or parent and so on. The chosen person automatically becomes a celebrity for the day on Top Radio. Let’s not forget as well that on Wednesdays, big-time celebrities come into the studio and share some things about themselves.
But before all these, there shall be traffic updates! At MEiran, Yaba, Owode, Ikeja, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Bariga, Ketu, Mushin, Ota, Agbado, Ogba, Berger, and Abule Egba, the traffic was quite light. On the contrary, there was a heavy traffic at places like: Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, Ikorodu, Idimu, Egbeda, 3rd Mainland Bridge, Iju, Mile 12, Fagba, Mile 2, and Ojo. After the Area Show, it was music, music and more music on Top Radio 90.9.
Top 9 Moments with Aramide went in this order:
1. Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, has lifted the lid on the star's burial. He will be laid to rest on his birthday, the 29th August, at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in LA at 10 am.
2. A Missouri woman has been charged with cyberbullying for allegedly posting photos and personal information of a teenage girl on the "Casual Encounters" section of Craigslist after an Internet argument. Prosecutors said 40-year-old Elizabeth A. Thrasher posted the 17-year-old's picture, e-mail address and cell phone number on the Web site in a posting that suggested the girl was seeking a sexual encounter.
3. A salsa dance instructor and choreographer on the Fox television show "So You Think You Can Dance" was arrested this morning on a felony warrant charging him with sexually assaulting four women. Alex Da Silva, 41, was arrested at his North Hollywood home by Los Angeles police. The charges include four counts of forcible rape, two counts of assault with intent to commit rape and two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object.
4. A French EuroMillions lottery winner has been found guilty of trying to bribe traffic police after they caught him drunk at the wheel of a souped-up Ferrari, his lawyer said Tuesday.Pascal Brun, a 39-year-old former butcher who began collecting Italian sportscars after scooping a 26-million-euro (37-million-dollar) jackpot in 2004, was nabbed on France's Atlantic coast near Bordeaux on Saturday.
5. Robin Wright Penn has filed for divorce from her husband Sean Penn. The papers, filed in Marin County, Calif., on Aug. 12, state that "both parties have already agreed to [shared] custody" over their minor son, Hopper Jack, 16, and that "the estranged couple have already agreed to division of all property." The reason for the split is listed as "irreconcilable differences." Wright Penn, best known for roles in The Princess Bride and Forrest Gump, is not seeking spousal support.
6. Great Britain's Phillips Idowu won the men's triple jump world title here at the world athletics championships on Tuesday when he beat defending Olympic and world champion Nelson Evora. The 30-year-old Olympic silver medalist won gold here with a mark of 17.73 metres - the best in the world this season - while Portugal's Evora was second with 17.55m and Alexis Copello of Cuba was third with 17.36m. It was sweet revenge for Idowu who jumped his season's best for 2008 of 17.62m in Beijing, but still lost out to Evora's 17.67m leap.
7. Nicolas Anelka has labelled Chelsea as favourites to win the Premier League and dismissed rivals Liverpool and Arsenal. The Frenchman feels new Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has the ability to guide the club to success after a hard-fought, late win over Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
8. A woman in Tunisia is claiming to be pregnant with 12 babies, according to French and British media. Initial reports state that the anonymous woman is said to be ignoring medical advice and will attempt to have all six boys and six girls. She has refused to see a doctor for an ultrasound.
9. Paris Hilton's movie "Pledge This!" was a colossal flop, but a Miami judge says she won't have to pay more than $8 million because of it. A lawsuit by investors in the film sought that amount, blaming the 2006 movie's poor showing on Hilton's failure to promote the film. Hilton claims she did everything she could to plug it.
Now, if there’s something noteworthy about Wednesdays, it is the fact that interviews are usually conducted. Today, Tola Sunmonu of Harambe Nigeria was interviewed about the foundation. Harambe is a foundation for Nigerian students working abroad and it focuses on the Agricultural sector because in her own words, ‘...when the Agricultural sector is balanced, there will be a difference in the other sectors that affect the economy. it is also an entrepreneurial design program’. At present, the Foundation is working with students at OAU, Ife. In furtherance of the vision, Harambe is organizing her 2nd annual conference on August 28, 2009 at Shell Hall, Muson Centre and it is FREE! For bookings and reservations, the number to call is: 08071949742 while the e-mail address is: harambenigeria@yahoo.com, and the website is: www.hendeavor.org. The theme for the conference is: ‘Planting the seeds of tomorrow’.
Just when we thought we’ve seen it all and heard it all, the big one landed. Innocent Idibia or Tuface Idibia, as he’s popularly called, stepped into the studio. He shared a lot of things about his numerous interests and his life as a musician. He talked about how he just gets into the spirit of the lyrics as he does his songs and even when he does ‘collabos’ with other artistes. He doesn’t know which of his songs he loves best though and his first choice of a football club is HyperTech FC then Enyimba and Lobi Stars FC. He also shared his take on the criticisms that come his way every now and then. He says he just lets them help him put himself to check and carry on with the vision- singing. He’s not sure of when he’ll be married but he’s definite it’ll be just one wife. Best food, he says is beans, yam and dry fish. Wow. When asked whether he ever saw himself being this big when he first started out, he said all he did was to hope, pray and fast about it. Then he talked about his 10th anniversary- 10 years of being an artist! To find out more about him, you can always visit: www.infinit2.com
The show ended in a very interesting way today with Tosyn and Tuface arguing over whether or not she’s VERY tall. What I think? Find out yourself. Lol
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

VERSUS TUESDAY...PUFF UP!

Tuesday, 18th August, 2009

It was bragging time on the AREA! show with Agent 009, sweet seventeen and AREA! mama today, Tuesday, the 18th of August, 2009 as all listeners were “licensed to brag” by agent 009 herself. The whole idea sha is that, since we have been complaining siiiiiiince, on Tuesdays, and many of us still don’t have solutions to these “challenges”, why don’t we, for a change, concentrate on the positive things, rather than the negative, and who knows, the law of attraction might actually come to pass, so today, being puffed-up was not a bad thing on the AREA! show, on the contrary, it was highly desirable. It took our listeners a while to get the hang of it though, but after a while, it was a pretty smooth ride, we had callers from Iju mentioning the good roads in their area, from Ikenne, good roads and regular electricity, from mende, peaceful and friendly environment and lots more. Made me see that Nigerians can complain o, but we still know how to “give thanks in all things”.

Today was VERSUS TUESDAY and we kicked off with the Mariah Carey/Nick Cannon vs. Eminem face-off where Tosyn played Mariah’s “obsessed” and then Eminems response (jeez, he didn’t mince words in that track at all, did he?) and today was also Come-share-with-me Tuesday, and we had the Versus special, it was a battle of the....lands? anyway it was mainland vs. Island, and the winner is............Mainland!!! The reasons given by the callers and texters for choosing the mainland are, the fact that cost of living on the mainland is lower than on the island, someone said that the mainland is above sea level while the Island is below sea level, so the mainland is safer:), a texter said that the drainage system on the Island is really bad, so the Island is always smelling (everywhere on the island?!lol) and that electricity is really poor on the Island (that’s a very general problem now o), in favour of the island, someone said that the nightlife is better than the mainland and another caller said that there are open spaces for recreation on the island.

On the HOW TO SHOW, we were taught “how to look ten times older than your real age”, our very cranky teacher, who must have been almost a hundred years old, assisted by some of the VIP kids, did a very good job and gave us the following “helpful” tips
• Keep away from any form of entertainment like parties
• Frown all the time, never smile
• Stress yourself and make friends with old folks
• Make sure you’re always busy and worry about everything
• Rub bleaching cream and go out under the sun to roast
• Make everybody’s worries yours
• Avoid drinking water
• Take your bath only once a week
• Wear oversized clothes
• Drag your feet and slouch when walking
• Never have anything to do with current fashion trends
And lots more...

That’s all for today. Till tomorrow

bragging right tuesday

It’s yet another Tuesday; another time to voice out the complaints we have about our areas. Well, that’s how it used to be until this morning, when there was a certain twist in the order of the show. So instead of complaining as usual, it became a ‘Bragging Right Tuesday’. You know that our religious leaders will always say that we should confess good things about our nation. That was applied to the show this morning. Thus instead of the usual pity-party, it was a celebration galore on Top Morning with Area Mama on Top Radio 90.9 on Tuesday, 18th of August, 2009.
The traffic update came as part of the package on the show though. The traffic at places like: Bariga, Alagbole, Iyana-Oba, Ogba, Berger, Mende, Ikorodu, Oko-Oba, Marina, and Abule-Egba wasw quite light. Conversely, the traffic at places like: Iyana-Ipaja, Akowonjo, Shasha, Yaba, Barracks, Third Mainland Bridge and Onikan was quite heavy as some people complained that the traffic jam in most of these places was bumper-to-bumper. The weather, on the other hand, as recorded in all these places was very cold and it even rained in some places.
Back to the ‘Bragging Right, some people bragged about an almost-constant power supply in their area. Some others bragged about their pot-hole free environment. A few other people also bragged about the safe condition of their area while some bragged about their neighbours. It was quite difficult for many people to find the good in their areas though but I’m sure that next week, many more people will find good reasons to appreciate their areas.
For the Yarn-Free Zone today, we listened to songs from 3 artistes who were once participants in the American Idol competition. They were: Garret Gates; Clay Aiken singing Invisible; and David Achiletta singing Crush. Thereafter, it was time for the Versus Show. This is the show wherein a topic is brought up for discussion- not just a discussion though. It is more like a debate or a game of choice. Today, ‘the versus’ was between staying on the Island and staying on the Island. Listeners were to either call in or send text messages to state which of the two places they would rather live in, and state their reasons for choosing whichever one. As with such discussions as this, there were various reasons for people’s different choices. Eventually, Tosyn announced the result of the poll and lo and behold, the Mainland was ahead of the Island by ... points. Lol
Top 9 Moments with Aramide went in this order:
· The anti-touting committee of the Nigerien Bar Association, Ibadan branch, recorded successrecently when it secured a 2-year jail term for Adegboyega Adeniran, a man who had practiced law in Ibadan for decades without a license.
· Frederick Chluba, the former President of Zambia whose government became internationally notorious for corruption durin his years in office, was acquitted yesterday for charges of stealing about $500,000 from the state.
· The Zimbabwe dollar is reported to be officially dead. It was killed off in hopes of curbing record world inflation of billions of percentage points, and Zimbabwe ahs replaced it with the U.S. dollar and the South African rand.
· Drowsy spectators in one suburban Chicago courtroom might want to stifle their yawns from now on because one Clifton Williams is facing months in jail for making what the court documents call a yawn-likesound in Judge Daniel Rozak’s court last month.
· The risk of power cuts during the 2010 soccer world cup has been averted because the global economic crisis has reduced South African consumption.
After the Top 9 Moments, it was time for the ‘How To Show’- the only show on the planet where you get tips on how to... lol. Today, the show was: ‘how to look 10 years older than you are’ and there were helpful tips such as:
1. Worry all day so your hair gets grey on time
2. Just sit and stare. Don’t do anything all day long.
3. Rub bleaching cream and go under the sun to roast
4. Live in the past through clothes you wear, hairstyles you do and slangs you use.
5. Create your own wrinkles... strong your face all the time
6. Disapprove of everything and everyone
7. Carry all the troubles of the world on your shoulder
8. As for the ladies, cover your face with 6 inches of powder, shave off all your eyebrows then draw a curved line that reaches your ear and wear lipstick that looks like war paint.
9. The last tip is for the guys: Grow a Moses beard and carry a Don Jazzy stick.
If you think these tips are crazy, then you should’ve heard the tips that came in as text messages. They were simply undisbelievably! Thanks for not considering putting these things to use.
Yours truly,
Ruthina Atinuke.

SWEET SIXTEEN BECOMES............SWEET SEVENTEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!

Monday, 17th August, 2009

Today was the first AREA! show after Area Mama, Sweet sixteen, Agent 009, CON.tra.dic.tion, SPEECHgirl and Tosyn Bucknor’s birthday, you know they’re, humh...... “sixtuplets”, born on the same day, by the same mother at the same time (don’t ask me how that happened). Wishing them all a wonderful year ahead, filled with the best of all that life has got to offer.
AREA was really energetic, with Nigerians in true "Nigerian style" all wanting to know how Tosyn spent her birthday and weekend, and Tosyn in true "Tosyn style" somehow sidestepped it until she discovered she couldn't avoid it when everyone kept asking, I'm sure many of you saw her on TV on Sunday. Today was also the day to create new words, we had words like edoyakly, inkokonistaklic, metabulocious, otapiapianomatopia and many others that i am sure if i type, my keyboard will just break.lol.

EXCERPTS OF TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE
• CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido, listed poor corporate governance practice, lax administration processes and the absence or non-adherence to the banks credit risk management practices as reasons for sacking five Bank MD’s last Thursday, namely, Intercontinental, Afribank, Union Bank, Oceanic Bank and Fin bank.

• The two men who carried out “Britain’s biggest jewel heist” involving 40 million pounds and 43 items, despite being caught on camera, are yet to be found. A reward of a million pounds will be paid for information leading to their arrest. Shan’t I like to know where they are now?
• Since MJ’s death, his estate has made over 60 million pounds, just in 50 days o. When you’re big...even in death, this guy is still making money, not that it will do him any good where he is though

• “Those who are lifting the world upwards and onwards are those who encourage more than criticize” Elizabeth Harrison

Going down MEMORY LANE yoday, we talked about matters of the heart, remembering the first time we first fell in love, you know, your first crush, whatever. THE WEATHER REPORT
The sun rose today at 6:05am and is expected to set at 7pm. Early morning cold conditions and wind-chill continue, so remember to stay warm. Maximum temperature is 29 degree Celsius and minimum temperature and overnight low is 22 degree Celsius.

Today was 2-for-1 Monday, so we had two songs each from etcetera, Rooftop MC's, Eben and many others. We also had the Top Question for today, which was "Would you ever, should you ever go for an ex's wedding", so many people said yes they would, but methinks it depends on the breakup, was it messy, was it clean, free of animosity, then fine, but if there is still serious beef or serious feelings, why torture yourself unnecessary.

That's all for today

Till tomorrow. Have a wonderful week

Ciao

Energetic Monday on the day after Sweet 16's birthday!

Yeah, it’s another Energetic Monday with Tosyn Bucknor, AKA Area Mama or Sweet 17 coz that’s what happens when Sweet 16 celebrates another full year on earth.

On Energetic Monday today as usual, there is an opportunity to put one’s ingenuity to use by creating new words that will be included in the soon-to-be-out Area Dictionary. It is also the only day on the Area Show when we have weekend review. People get to share the details of how they spent their weekends. Moreover, it is a 2-from-1 Monday, meaning that we get to listen to 2 songs from 1 artist per time throughout on the show.

But before all these, there were traffic updates and weather reports from various people. Festac, Ikorodu, Ogijo, Oko-Oba, Remo in Ogun State, Ajangbadi, Volks, Maza MAza, Ketu, Mile 12, Ojodu, Palmgrove, Sango, Ojo and Lagos-Ibadan expressway were quite free this morning. On the other hand, the traffic at Berger, Lagos Island, Iyana-Ipaja, Cement, Pen-Cinema and Ogba was quite heavy this morning. The weather in most of these places was breezy and a bit chilly.
The new words for today were very interesting. Some of them were even ‘unspellable’ while some other ones could not even be pronounced by Area Mama herself. They include such words as: ‘metabulocious’, ‘tse-tse, ‘laracious’, onomatopoeialistic’, ‘gidigbim’, ‘otapiapianomatopoeia’ etcetra. These words- even though we can’t really decipher their meanings- all refer to how people felt this morning.

For the Yarn-Free Zone this morning, we listened to songs from: Rooftop Mcs, Etcetra and Eben.

Going down Memory Lane today, we had to share our first experience of ‘true love’. You remember those times in primary school or secondary school when the butterflies begin to fly in every corner of your belly and you begin to see stars in the eyes of the one who has stolen your heart. Yeah, those were the memories we dug up this morning. People shared the bitter-sweet memories of falling in and out of love. Some were touching [like the case of the lil boy who pretended to be sick because his love was sick and had to be taken to the sick bay, and put on a bed beside his love]. Some other ones were funny and hilarious.

At 9:17, it was time for Top 9 Moments with Aramide. The first bit of news she came up with was about the 5 MDs that were sacked by the CBN governor last week. The governor said he sacked them because of their wrong attitude and low level of productivity in the sector. The affected banks are: Oceanic bank, Afribank, Fin bank, Union bank and Intercontinental bank. There was also something in the news about Michael Jackson’s estate having generated up to 60 million pounds in the last 50 days after his death. The match between Arsenal and Everton was said to have ended at 6-1 in favour of Arsenal. Whoa!

After the Top 9 Moments, it was simply a Monday morning show on an energetic style with Sweet 17 doing her thing until 11 am when she signed out.
Of course, the TOP QUESTION for today, "Would you ever... Should you ever... Attend an ex's wedding", got a lot of responses with most people divided. Tosyn summed it up based on feedback-
Dont go if you are still hung up
If you do, don't be an attention-grabber!

RUTH

My 15mins of 'fame' on Naija Sings

Duty called on Saturday. It was my birthday, but in the midst of all that, i had to squeeze in [very UNreluctantly], being a guest judge on NAIJA SINGS, the reality show brought to you by MNET AFRICA and produced by STORM.
On the show, they say, ‘Celeb Judges’ but like i told DJINEE who i was judging with, he was the celeb, and i was the, “Who is she again?”.
LOL

Backstage before the show was funny. The contestants were putting last minute touches to their outfits, and hanging out, pretending not to be worried, when deep down, each of them was praying like mad!
Some tried to find the right shoes to go with their ‘look’, others kept spraying hair spray continuously! Some took the opportunity to practise their songs again, while others just sat in a corner and meditated.
Djinee and i had to do interviews for the site, and that was fun and cool, although when it came to my turn, they had to adjust the cameras. And by adjust, i mean ‘bring it down to get the short person in focus!’. I know what i want for Christmas.... but it might be too late. Damn those beans that didn’t have weavils!
The interview went well. One of the questions i was asked was, what kind of judge will you be? And i said, all i would say is, “The camera loves you”.
Seriously though, i think my ultimate aim was to be nice but honest. Cos you don’t want to end up sounding stupid, nor crushing dreams. A bad day don’t mean a bad career.
The actual show itself was long, but thankfully, not boring in the least.
First of all, Djinee and i sat together and tried to dub each other! Cos we had to make comments on a clipboard. The audience was also really cool; very into the show. And the female contestants looked good. I loved the outfits. I didn’t get why all the male contestants wore suits though... i think some personalities do well with other looks.
We had to sit through each performance and let the audience make comments, but not talk till the very end. Then we gave our own opinions!
Djinee was looking out for voice control and everything that had to do with the music itself; im always about the total package cos it all counts. Yes, even down to the outfits, and stage presence.
We gave our opinions, the contestants filed off stage, and Olisa Adibua, the host, signed us out! And we finally got to get up and eat!
(I am a growing child... I love to eat!)

So there it was! My guest spot as a judge.
Check out NAIJA SINGS on MNET AFRICA on Sundays at 8pm, and AFRICA MAGIC, Sundays at 10pm.
You can also see my backstage interview on the site

Enjoy!

Town Hall Tuesday

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it’s another time for the most interesting show on any blessed Tuesday. It’s another Townhall Tuesday with the gorgeous and amiable Tosyn Bucknor, Area Mama, Double 09, Sweet 16 or any other good name that suits you. It’s that day of the week where people get to lay complaints about their numerous or few grievances about the on-goings in their areas. But as usual, there’s no show without the Area Show with the only and only Area Mama herself.
The traffic updates from: Ajah, Mangoro, Iyana-Iba, Sango, Sabo, Berger, Owode, Abule-Egba, Ojo, Agiliti, Bariga, Ikeja, Agege, College Road, and Ikoyi revealed that these places were quite free this morning. On the other hand, the traffic at: Adekoya, Marina, Falomo, Maza Maza, Yaba, Barracks, 3rd Mainland Bridge and Obalende was quite heavy. Generally, the weather was quite chilly in all these areas. Someone even said that in his area, the weather is so cold he wonders if we’re experiencing winter in Nigeria.
The tradition on every Townhall Tuesday is to plead and complain and plead and complain a little bit more. Therefore, the lines were open for people to either call or send in texts about their complaints or to express their appreciation. Many people today complained about PHCN, ASUU, the Nigerian Water Corporation and bad roads. However, a few people applauded PHCN for power supply. Weird ain’t it?
In the Yarn-Free Zone today, it was an all American Idol special. We listened to songs from: Clay who sang Invisible; David with crush; and Daughtery with Over you. There couldn’t have been a better match of talents, could there? a new twist has been introduced to the Townhall show on Top Radio. It’s called the Versus Tuesday Special. This is how it goes down: we listen to two or more songs from different artistes. They’re mostly saying absolutely different things. Nelly Furtado and Dido kicked it off this morning with their songs- Like a bird and Hunter, respectively. From then, it was music, music and more music on a challenging note.
Top 9 Moments highlights for today include:
· The fact that talk show queen- Oprah Winfrey used to have a policy for her show- no rappers. But for the first time in nearly a decade, we learnt that she’s going to break it. She will feature Platinum-Selling rapper, Jay-z on her afternoon talk show. Whoa!
· Having a Narcissistic-self-serving-boss creates a toxic environment for everyone who has contact with such a boss, according to U.S. researchers.
· 24 star Keifer Sutherland has just been named U.S. TV’s top-paid actor- taking home $550,000 for every outing as counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer. But fans of this series will be sad to know it could be coming to an end.
· A Japanese railway worker halted a commuter train passing an emergency stop button because he needed an excuse for being late, Police said after arresting the man on Monday.
· On the football scene, Barcelona refuse to rule out a move fro Arsenal captain Fabregas.
· Students from at least 3 different universities took to the streets of Lagos yesterday morning in protest of the continued ASUU strike.
· Nigerians will pay more for electricity with effect from this month following a 10 percent increase in tariffs, according to federal Govt;s plan to encourage private sector participation in the power sector.
· Marketers are failing to embrace social media, with only 3 % looking into channels such as blogging and micro-blogging via tools like twitter.
Next, it was time for the How-To show and Double 09 and Tari took on a brief on how to make your home a house of commotion. They shared powerful tips on how not to build a home.
At a few minutes to 11, Tosyn and Tari signed out on the show.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

Energetic Monday

It is Energetic Monday again, with Tosyn Bucknor doing her thing on Top Morning. It is that first day of the week on the Area Show where people get the rare opportunity to invent new words that will be included in the soon-to-be-produced Area Dictionary for Area people. But before that, people have to send in their traffic updates and weather reports. This is the only way they let everyone what is going on in their ‘Area’. So once again, it’s Tosyn doing her thing on the show as Area Mama, Double 09 and the fanatastic mother of the VIP kids.

The traffic at Ajangbadi, Ojo, MazaMaza, Ikotun, Ajah, Lekki, Akowonjo, Dopemu, Agege, Iyana-Oba, Owode and Ota was too bad for a Monday morning- an energetic one at that. However, places like: Palmgrove, Shomolu, Ikorodu and Sholuyi were quite free. The weather in these place was breezy and very chilly with had many people anticipating rainfall. Some of the new words we got for the Area Dictionary today include words such as: ‘super-duper high’, meaning excited; ‘electroboomboom’, meaning on top; ‘kinticious’, meaning great; ‘mememe’, meaning great; ‘kuchikuchihutahe’, meaning good; ‘kwando’, also meaning good; ‘tentaciously gbingbilicious’, meaning on top of the world; ‘chocochochochocolate’, meaning sweet; ‘scintillateous’, meaning interesting; ‘gbishgbish’, meaning very well; and ‘atarish’, meaning spicy or peppery. Can you beat that?
In the Yarn-Free Zone today, we listened to a 3 from 1 special by Carlos Santana. We listened to: Seal, Everlast, and Smooth. The magic is all in the way he strums the guitar. On Memory Lane today, we travelled in a bus called ‘Crime and Punishment’. The idea was to dig up those ugly memories about the times when got punished either in school or at home by our superiors because of the crimes we committed, or did not even commit. People called and sent in text messages to share the gory details of some of the things they did to get into trouble at one point or the other. Some confessed that they had to draw a car on a board, and push the car as a form of punishment. Some others had to fill up a bucket with water using spoons to fetch water; some even had to stool down. Someone had to crawl on gravel under the sun while another person had to pick pins from the sand for 5 hours in the sun.
For the Top 9 Moments with Aramide, there was something about Michael Jackson not being the real father of his children. We heard that their godfather is the actual father and he is even set for a DNA test to prove this. Next, there was some news about a man whose premature child came back to life shortly before the child was buried. It was also reported that Chelsea beat Man-Utd 4-1 during yesterday’s match. A boat accident at Ikorodu was reported to have claimed 26 lives yesterday. The energy was high until 11:00 am when Tosyn signed out on the show.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

THE ORIGINAL FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!

Friday, 7th August, 2009

AREAAAAA! Fellow Nigerians, una well done o! You people showed that Nigerians are very smart and resourceful today, because with the songs, texts and SHOUTOUTS our callers came up with, I was greatly impressed, from all possible genres, from reggae to rap, una try abeg. The VIP kids didn’t stop clapping throughout today, I’m sure their hands are really aching.

Many mothers’ ears must be ringing now, because so many people made SHOUT-OUTS to their mothers, Bukola from Surulere, made a SHOUT-OUT to her Grandfather to wish him happy birthday, I wonder how old he is, made me wish I still had a grandfather alive. Bayo from the USA ( i.e. United States of Amukoko) lol sent us a text that says ”this text that has both bad news and good news, the good news is that it has no cholesterol, additives or fat, the bad news is that it has so much sugar, it might make you diabetic...” I really liked that.

EXCERPTS OF TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE
• Lagos state government adopts a policy that bans reeling out the names of dignitaries at public functions so as to save time. This Fashola government is really a Nigerian state government with a difference, this is good o, its surprising in Nigeria, considering the attitude of self-importance that our politicians generally adopt
• 6th edition of the Annual Abuja International Film and Video Festival holds in September.
• John Hughes, the Home Alone scriptwriter is dead, he is survived by his wife, two sons and four grandchildren.
• A homeless anonymous holocaust survivor left one hundred thousand dollars to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem even though she had no known connection to them
• A Chinese lady who wanted her name in the Guiness Book of world records has turned up for her wedding wearing a 2162metre long gown and 9999 red roses. I wonder what car was able to take all that, maybe a truck.lol

On WEEKEND PREVIEW, the Manchester United vs Chelsea match seemed to be on a lot of minds, including Tosyn's(Red Devil for life!!!). That means I'm wearing my Chelsea jersey on Sunday (Up Blues!!!). Our fingers are crossed, I wonder who'll win, I guess I can only wait.

Feel Good Friday

Thank God it is yet another Feel Good Friday on Top Morning with Tosyn Bucknor or Double 09 whose goal is to entertain us on every given Friday morning, as the weekend begins. But right before the entertainment and fun began; we received traffic updates from places like: Abule-Egba, Third Mainland Bridge, Sholuyi, Maryland, Ketu, Dopemu, Iju, Oko-Oba, Mile 2 and Akute. All these places were free. The traffic at Maza-MAza, Ojo, Barracks, Mangoro, Iyana-Ipaja, Ojota and Agege was quite light. The weather, as it had been for the rest of the week, was quite chilly.
Maroon 5 opened the floor as we listened to some Alternative songs in the Yarn-Free Zone this morning. Every Feel Good Friday is also a Shout Out Friday. So, the lines were opened for people to make loud shout-outs to their loved ones, and their ‘once-upon-a-loved-one’. That is, shouts outs were to be made to everyone who means something, nothing, everything and anything to everyone. This could also be done through text messages.
In Aramide’s world, during the Top 9 Moments, we found out that Bill Clinton and drugmakers- Pfizer and Matrix Laboratories Ltd have announced a deal to lower the cost of treatments for patients with drug-resistant forms of HIV/AIDS. Good news huh? Aliko Dangote has been announced as the new President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange by the NSE Council. We also hear that all is now set for the 6th edition of the annual Abuja International Film and Video Festival, holding from Sept 23rd to 25th, 2009, at the prestigious Shehu Musa Yardua Centre and Cyprian Ekwensi Cultural Centre both in Abuja. A Chinese bride, on Thursday has made a bid for the record books when she turned up for her wedding in a 2,162 metre-long gown. It was also in the news that the famed writer and director- John Hughes- has died at age 59.
After the Top 9 Moments, it was fun, funn and more phuhn, all the way as people gave a preview of what their weekends were going to be like. After these exclusive information, Tosyn signed out at a few minutes to 11.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

Thursday

Every Thursday on Top Moring with Area Mama is another day to travel on the proverbial lane and surf the internet live on the show. The show started at 6:00 am as usual and people started sending in their updates at about the same time.
The traffic updates from: Ajangbadi, Ojo, Barracks, Maza Maza, Akute, Alagbole and Mangoro revealed that there was a heavy traffic in these places. However, the traffic at places like: Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Surulere, Sholuyi, Abule-Egba, Ketu, Ikotun, Oko-Oba, and Third Mainland Bridge was quite light. The weather in all these places was quite breezy. As people sent in their traffic updates, they were also asked to mention their favorite days of the week. Several people mentioned Sunday- for obvious reasons- they get to rest and make out time to worship God. Some other people chose Fridays because they say it puts them in the mood to have some fun during the weekend. Still, some others picked Saturday because they say it’s the time they have to do other things than work. Some other days of the week were mentioned as well.
For the Yarn-Free Zone today, we listened to songs from the likes of: Eagle Eye, Cranberry and Natasha Beddingfield. They were all expressing their love in different ways. After this, Tosyn surfed the internet for interesting sites, and encouraged everyone to do the same and share their findings with everyone. She also shared the latest news she found on Twitter, Facebook, msn, hi 5 and some other interesting sites she came across. Some other people also shared their findings on topics ranging from sports to entertainment.
After this, we had the Top 9 Moments with Aramide. The first findings she came up with was about the results of a study that showed that TV viewing and screen time are associated with elevated blood pressure independent of body composition in children. The next bit of information was that Columbia Pictures has solidified its plans to bring a Michael Jackson film- complete with footage of his final rehearsals in preparation for a comeback tour. There was also something in the news about Chris Brown’s assault of Rihanna. The case was scheduled for a hearing yesterday has been rescheduled for August 27. Finally, on the sports scene, there was news about Liverpool being poised to complete a deal to bring Roma mid-fielder Alberto Aduilani to Anfield.
To cap it all, we travelled down proverbs lane. This is the segment of the show where people got to recite proverbs in various languages other than English. It was phuhn!
At a few minutes to 11, Tosyn signed out on the show.
Much love,
Ruthina Atinuke.

FEEL-GOOD THURSDAY?

Thursday, 6th August, 2009

This Thursday woke up and decided to rebel, it wanted to be a Friday, and guess what? We almost fell for it.lol. AREAAAAA! today was Mwaah! Dr. Lee, calling from third mainland bridge serenaded us with a very creative tune, this thursday is really trying to feel like a friday o, Area singing joint wants to relocate to thursday now, ehn?

ONLINE REALTIME, we had shout outs to different nouns (i.e people, places and things) :), to Bowen University, Muslim College, parents, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, exes, fiancés, fiancées and so on and so forth. Zainab says she loves Seun, and Awoyemi proved that sometimes, when the stakes are high enough, even men can multitask, he said he was facebooking, drinking coffee and checking out videos on YouTube, all at once. It was reported that at MSN.com, Brad Pitt responded to some rumours flying in the air, dunno what he said, but u can find out on MSN.com, one of our 'stablest' people, Edoyak said he was having trouble writing on our facebook wall, but he eventually sorted things out sha.

EXCERPTS OF TOP 9 MOMENTS WITH ARAMYDE
• President Umar MusaYaradua has given a directive that the death of the Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Yusuf in police custody last week should be investigated

On PROVERBS LANE today, we had a lot of proverbs in Ibo. Peter gave us a proverb in Ibo, which translates to mean, they don't use what they use to clean ear to clean mouth, there was a Yoruba proverb that hit me, it says, “tí òré bá kú, ogún òré ò lè kani”, which means, according to our caller, whatever you want to do for a friend, do it on time, preferably sometime before that friend dies (that last part was my, ehm, additional interpretation)

On SING A STORY, Usman Bashir sang “Lagimo” for PHCN, he says they’ve been trying recently, my brother I think I shall sing along with you because, yes they have been trying, at least we had light two days ago.lol. Thank God o. Funny enough, someone from Akute said the exact opposite, so he said we should sing “Imagine that” for PHCN. We also reach out to Mayowa, who said she lost her boyfriend two weeks ago in a car crash, we ask for strength for you and his family, to be able to bear this loss and come out strong.

That is all for today. See you tomorrow
